Cawood Wisdom on Halloween (for what it’s worth)

Yo,

So, It’s Halloween. I’m sitting at the kitchen table listening to Jeremy Vine and most of his listeners are slagging off the whole thing. Oh FFS, get over yourselves. It’s a bit of fun for the kids, right? And if it bothers you that much, sit in the dark and ignore the doorbell. Or even better, get down the pub.

I LOVE it. Always have. I have a long history of Cawood parties both before kids and after. Now I love it because I can indulge my children in it too. Autumn and I have carved pumpkins this morning and I’ve got all my little interior Halloween decs all ready to go. Tealights are a-go here (remember to be candle-safe kids!)

Autumn’s birthday is on October 18th so we have been having Halloween themed parties since she was tiny. We had a party for her a couple of weeks ago. Yours truly here took to Pinterest and Put On A Spread. God, it took fecking AGES. It was really quite stressful and I barely saw my guests because I was so busy baking potatoes and trying to make toffee apples (two attempts before I gave up and the whole lot went in the bin).

I learned some invaluable lessons this year on entertaining. By all means be a Pinterest Party Thrower if you have the time and the energy but next time, I’m going to make it a bit easier on myself. I made Autumn an awesome cake, and I will continue to try and do cake-age, but all the other stuff: the multi-halloween-theme-coloured cupcakes with internet sourced toppers? (at great expense). Nah, fuck that. Next time, I’m off to Lidl for all that shizzle.

I guess what I’m trying to say is: entertain your friends, keep their glasses topped up and have fun with food if you want, but don’t miss out on all the fun yourself by trying to be a Pinterest Queen. Succeed where I failed kidz.

Anyways, here some piccies of the big day. TheĀ  bits when I wasn’t in the kitchen carving bits out of hotdogs to make them look like fingers, were fun!

Spent a fortune on intense food colouring. It makes your poo interesting too!

A cake baking friend advised me to refrigerate the sponge prior to carving it up. It makes it much easier to do.

I think I might take next year off, I’m knackered. Right, I must go, I have small trick or treaters to face-paint up!
